The First Session of the International Anti-Doping Symposium was successfully hosted by China Anti-Doping Agency (referred as CHINADA) during July 16th to 17th,2019. Mr. LI Yingchuan, Vice minister of the State General Administration of Sport of China attended this Symposium. Sir Craig Reedie, President of WADA, and Benjamin Cohen, Director Gneral General of ITA were also invited. It brought together 78 delegates from 33 countries.

Under the theme “Implementing Effective Anti-Doping Program in Major Events”, this symposium aimed to present and share with ADOs the organization, policy and operation moduel that has been formed in China, and provide a platform to exchange, communicate and cooperate.

Mr. LI Yingchuan expressed that Chinese government has always attached great importance to anti-doping work, and stressed the zero tolerance attitude.  China is now actively promoting the construction of  a long-term anti-doping governmece system—the “win clean medals’ system”, and taking comprehensice measures to build an all-round and internet-based anti-doping mechanism. China will continue to support WADA in anti-doping and respond to WADA’s call of contributing China’s wisdom to the world.

Sir Craig Reedie spoke highly of China’s anti-doping efforts. He said, anti-doping fit well with sport in China. China is a role module in anti-doping. The experiences that China has accumulated should be delivered globally. 2021 will be the year when the latest revised Code comes into effect and WADA is currently finalizing the the World Anti-Doping Code and International Standard in time for its ratification at the 5th World Conference on Doping in Sport, which will take place in November in Katowice, Poland.

Mr. Chen Zhiyu, Exective Director General of CHINADA, introduced the history of China Anti-Doping work. CHINADA has accumulated profound experience from major events, and a set of highly effective systems, policies and operation modes has been formed, referred as “ Chinese Model.” China would like to share the Chinese Model with the attendees, in order to jointly reinforce anti-doping capacity of major events. He  took delegates through CHINADA’s priorities. With the goal of building a first-class national anti-doping agency with independence, impartiality, profession and authority, CHINADA is actively constructing a long-term anti-doping governance system- the Win Clean Medals System, to realize the ultimate goal that the athletes dare not, cannot and do not want to dope.

During the symposium, delegates from CHINADA presented the experiences at length in operations, testing, education and etc.  A crucial review of  the World Anti-Doping Code was introduced by WADA. Heads of Doping Control of 2020 Tokyo Olympics and 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics updated the progress respectively. Another highlight of the Symposium came on day one with panel discussions entitled “How to play out the roles of NADOs and RADOs in Major Events” and “Sharing of experiences, difficulties and challenges on Anti-Doping in Major Events”.

This symposium has won favourable comments from the attendees. WADA’s president expressed sincere thanks and high appreciations for the practical outcomes of this symposium.
